250th Anniversary of American Independence
With the 250th anniversary of American independence, this Fourth of July was an opportunity to reflect on the founding promise of our nation, that all are created equal and endowed with the unalienable rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. On Independence Day, we used the uplifting words from President Carter’s farewell address:
"The fundamental force that unites us is not kinship or place of origin or religious preference. The love of liberty is a common blood that flows in our American veins.”
During times of division, we are called to remember and champion the shared values and common dreams of all Americans. Invite a neighbor with opposing views to the dinner table, reconnect with a family member, and vow to treat others with more openness and compassion. Together, we can rebuild our communities and unite our country.
The Carter Center 2026 Learning Summit
Our Sun100 team spent Monday and Tuesday in Atlanta for a summit focused on one important question: How do we continue building a stronger network of intentional peacemakers during a time of deep political polarization?
The conversations were thoughtful, challenging, and encouraging. We left with new ideas, stronger relationships, and a renewed commitment to creating spaces where people can engage with one another respectfully, even when they disagree.
